KANO – Multiple explosions and gunfire rocked Tishama quarters in Kano metropolis Wednesday morning as JTF raided a suspected hide out for the Boko Haram sect.
Locals says the early morning raid by JTF started around 4.00am local time and that the operation lasted for about four hours.
The sporadic gunshots forced Muslims in the area to shun calls for their early morning prayers.
Residence say the eastern by-pass otherwise known as ring road was cordoned off by the military at Mega station roundabout while a similar measure was extended to the Hadejia road end.
Troop movements and deployment of tanks was also noticed in the area while both human and vehicular movement was restricted while the raid lasted.
A resident, Isa Yahaya told Vanguard that “we had our heart in our mouth during the explosions and heavy gunfire”
Tishama quarters is an adjourning neighbourhood to Hotoro, Nassarawa local government area not far from the Mopol headquarters in the ancient city.
In a telephone chat with Vanguard, JTF spokesman, Lt Ikediche Iweha confirmed the incident, adding that four suspects were picked up during the raid.
Lt Iweha however declined further comments on the casualty figures of the four hour operation.
