ACN Celebrates Victory Over Obasanjo

The Abeokuta residence of the Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Ibikunle Amosun was agog yesterday as party supporters gathered to celebrate their victory over the Obasanjo-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s poll.According to reports, ACN cleared all the three Senatorial and House seats leaving the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and the State Governor, Gbenga Daniel lamenting their senseless internal squabbles which opened the door for  ACN to try and capture the southwest zone.
The three senators-elect are the former State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Adegbenga Kaka (Ogun East), Akin Babalola Odunsi (Ogun West) and  Onaolapo Olugbenga, a green horn who defeated the incumbent, Iyabo Obasanjo.
Olumide Osoba, the son of the former governor of the State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, won in  the Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency. He scored 12, 279 votes to defeat PDP 5, 231 and PPN 5, 914.
Another big loser, is the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, who was defeated by another relatively unknown candidate, Segun Williams. Recall that the speaker had been with Governor Daniel in the battle for the soul of the PDP in the state until he switched allegiance to Obasanjo camp. Thus, he had his name on the two controversial PDP lists sent to the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC).
But all these did not help his political career as he lost in his bid to return to the National Assembly.
Speaking to journalists during the course of the celebration on Sunday, Amosun attributed the landslide victory of the party to the  desire of the people for change.
“Our people are tired of the mismanagement of the state by the PDP government in Ogun State. They spoke with their votes, they said they wanted a change and the result is what we witnessed yesterday (Saturday).
