Madalla, a town in Niger State was thrown into pandemonium on Thursday at about 9pm as two policemen were shot by unknown men in the area.
When leadership visited the Madalla Police Station to ascertain what happened, it was directed to the Police Public Relations Officer at Minna, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ugwuche Richard who in a phone interview confirmed the incident adding that efforts were being made to fish out the culprits and bring them to book.
He also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state had dispatched the members of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad from the state CID, Minna to Suleja to start a massive raid in order to identify the perpetrator of the act.
“Madalla is under Suleja Area Command. There are possibilities that the perpetrators are not even in Madalla so we will spread our tentacles to Madalla and its environs, Suleja, Tafa and we will even overlap the FCT Command.”
Ikechukwu Igwe, a resident of Madalla, who spoke to leadership said that Madalla was like a ghost town after the killing as people locked up their shops and fled to their homes. “I was about to close my shop when I saw people running. When I asked them what the problem was, they said that two policemen were killed. Nobody knows who did it. When people heard the shot, they all started to run because people thought it was another crisis about to happen.
Another resident, Buba Chris said, people started running helter- skelter at about 9 and 10pm. Nobody knew what the problem was. It was today that I heard that some people were killed.” They stated that Madalla had been experiencing security problem and called on the police to do everything possible in their power to protect the lives of people in Madalla and to make the place safe again.
