The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammad Buhari, and other statesmen in the Nigerian politics to emulate former President Ibrahim Babangida who recently announced his retirement from active politics. Speaking with LEADERSHIP at the weekend in an interview, the National President of the Council, Ajani Olawale James, said it was wrong for politicians to make inciting statements.

He added that the time had come for such people to retire from Nigerian politics.

He said “the politicians that are inciting the youth are the major cause of violence. Our stand is that they should all go and emulate General Ibrahim Babangida who has  told us that he has now retired from active politics. They should go and retire and just be elders there for consultation Buhari, Obasanjo,  Ciroma and others should go and retire, they have tried, they are elder statesmen, we will keep on respecting them, those of them that are inciting and are using the youth as raw materials for violence, should go and retire. When they go for rally, they make inflammatory statements here and there.”
