A female lecturer at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, (names withheld) has been sacked from the university for alleged forgery of a master’s degree certificate.
LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered that the female lecturer, who was in the department of Mass Communication of the university, claimed that she holds a master’s degree from a famous northern university and was employed based on the claim.
It was gathered that the university authority, based on allegations from some persons who were suspecting her, contacted the university and confirmed that she did her first degree in the school but never came back for her master’s.
The university, according to a source in IBBU, also clarified that the admission number the female lecturer was using in her forged master’s degree certificate was correct but the number belongs to another master’s degree student in the department of geography of the same university.
It was further gathered that the female lecturer confessed to the school authority, after the school found out about her action, that she did it to meet the minimum requirement of the university.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Kolo, confirmed the story and said that the university had sacked the lecturer and handed her over to the police.
He said it was unfortunate that such act was taking place in an academic environment known for its excellence and warned that those who were having the same dubious academic background like the lecturer to come out before the school’s verification exercise fishes them out.
IBBU has commenced verification of the credentials of her staff members to ascertain their qualification and the authenticity of their certificates.
